Julep June Mystery Box

Have you heard of Julep? If not you should check it out. Its a monthly subscription program where you get 2-3 nail polish colors and a beauty product, usually mani/pedi centered for $19.99. They do these Mystery Boxes about once a month and for most holidays and you are guaranteed to get $60-200 worth of Julep products for $19.99. This time they did one for June and you had the chance to get a Mystery Color or win the entire Julep Polish Collection. I was lucky this month and got "big" box worth between $150 and $200 so I'm pretty happy. I had a coupon for a free polish or $11.20 in the Maven Boutique for being a new member so I paid less than $9 for this box so this was well worth the amount of stuff I got.

Deborah Lippmann Footloose

I'm excited to bring you Deborah Lippmann's Footloose today!  I never thought I'd own any of her lovely polishes, but now I have 4 and 2 on the way to me.  Her polishes are expensive, but from what I hear they are worth the expense.  My cut off for cost of a polish is around $5.  I'll spend as much as $10, but I have to really want it and I'll find a coupon, sale, or wait for a while before I buy it before I spend that much on one too.  I have to really love it to spend more than drugstore prices on nail polish.  I love OPI, Essie, China Glaze, and Zoya as much as anyone who loves nail polish, but I have to find a good deal.  I now add Deborah Lippmann to my wishlist as the polish is amazing and beautiful, but I'll wait for it to go on sale.

I got a wonderful deal on these from HSN.com.  They had several 2 packs of DL polishes on clearance for 9.95 + shipping.  I believe the Footloose and Almost Paradise combo was still available at the time of this post.   So far I've picked up 3 clearance duos for this price.  Considering DL's cost $16-20 a bottle this is a steal.

Footloose is a bright tomato red polish with orange tones.  In the bottle it looks like it would be a creme, but it is more like a jelly when applied.  I used 2 coats and still had visible nail line.  I saw some other bloggers use this polish with 3 coats and they still had VNL so I stopped at 2.  I plan to put something sparkly over it anyway.

Deborah Lippmann are free of formaldehyde, toluene and dibutyl phthalates and contain biotin and green tea, along with Aucoumea Klaineana extract (a botanical resin from West African trees).  Application is amazing, not sure if it is the formula, the brush or the combination of both.  I barely had to do any cleanup.

I used Seche Clear and Seche Vite as base and top coats.  I'm trying out different base and top coat combos to see which ones work best.  So far Seche Clear is a decent base coat, no issues there.  I find that I get shrinkage with Seche Vite on a lot of my polishes, but it does dry really fast and doesn't chip as badly as some of drugstore topcoats.  I got it on sale at Sally Beauty but I don't think I'll buy it again.  I'm not a fan of the smell and I don't like the shrinkage.

Contest Swag

I got some awesome packages this week from giveaways that I won.

I was one of the 10 winners of the Nicole by OPI's Spring Fling Sweepstakes on Facebook.  You had to pick your favorite polish from a selection and input your info.  I received:  Blue Lace, Purple Yourself Together, Wear Something Spar-Kylie, Ladies in the Limelight, The Right Thing, and Paparazzi Don't Preach.  Paparazzi Don't Preach, Ladies in the Limelight, and Wear Something Spar-Kylie are colors from Kardashian Kolor Collection.  I voted for Ladies in the Limelight, but it isn't as bright as I thought it would be.  Maybe it will be brighter on the nail.  In the bottle I think The Right Thing is my favorite, and very on trend for summer.  Can't wait to try these.

I also won a full sized Enzyme Cleansing Gel and Seaweed Cleansing Lotion by Mario Badescu via Beauty Undercover.  They have Swag Alerts that you can sign up through via email atleast once a week and I was lucky enough to win this set.  I haven't tried it yet, but it smells nice.  The cleansers came with a lovely hand written note thanking me for participating in the giveaway.  I checked out their website and their products are Vegan, cruely free and are resonably priced.  I also requested some additional samples via their Facebook page and website.  You have to take a quiz about your skin and they send you a list of items personalized to your skin type.  These cleansers are for all types.  I've never heard of this brand before but I'm looking forward to trying it out.

I also won a giveaway from the lovely Princess Polish and The New Black.  I won the Horizon Ombre polish set.  I've seen some pretty awesome manicures with The New Black sets.  As you can see from the picture Horizon is blue, I got my pick of the ombre sets or the newspaper nails set.  Blue is my favorite color, so I went with that.

Julep Maven June

I just receive my June Julep Maven Box.  I'm an American Beauty, but I didn't like the colors this month so I switched to Bombshell.  I was going to skip this month completely because I didn't initially like the colors, I actually did skip the box at first.  I got an email since it was my first month after my intro box as a Maven that I would get a voucher for a free polish if I didn't skip this month so I took another look at the colors for this month and un-skipped.  I'm glad I changed boxes, I'm in love with Morgan.  I love purple.  In my box I received Julep's daylight defense SPF 30 for hands and face, daylight defense SPF 15 lip balm in Vanilla Mint, Rose, Morgan, Pixy Sticks, and a voucher for One Free Polish.  The lip balm and Pixy Sticks were a surprise.  I'm a chapstick junkie and I love anything with SPF in it during the summer.

Rose is described by Julep as a juicy watermelon red creme.  Morgan is described by Julep as  frosty grape purple.  Until I get my own swatches up, the swatches of Juleps June colors can be found here http://blog.julep.com/june-maven-swatches.

Interested in becoming a Julep Maven, http://julep.com/?r=20834258, use my referral link.  Take the style quiz to see what box Julep recommends for you.  If you don't like the colors you can select a different box at checkout.  Use code PENNY, COLORS4ONE, or SHAREONMAY to get your first month for a penny, Julep also puts out a monthly penny intro box code.  I'll update with the June code when it comes out.
